Introduction
Best MCP Servers for Content Creators and Developers (2026)
20 MCP servers worth connecting in 2026, split into a creator stack and a developer stack, with real endpoint URLs, who maintains each one, and the archived servers you should skip.
TL;DR
Pick official, maintained MCP servers: Canva, Figma, Notion and ElevenLabs for creators; GitHub, Context7, Playwright and Supabase for developers. Run 4–6, not 20.

Best MCP Servers for Content Creators and Developers (2026)
The best MCP servers in 2026 are the official, vendor-maintained ones: Canva, Figma, Notion and ElevenLabs if you create content, and GitHub, Context7, Playwright and Supabase if you write code. Connect four to six of them, not twenty. Every extra server adds tools your AI assistant has to choose between, and that costs you context and accuracy.
That's the short answer. The longer one matters, because most "best MCP servers" lists you'll find were written in 2025 and still recommend servers that have since been archived. Scrimba's 2026 roundup counts 13 reference servers retired in 2025, including the original GitHub, Slack, Google Drive, Puppeteer and Brave Search servers. If you install one of those today, you're running unmaintained code with access to your accounts.
So this list follows three rules. Official or clearly maintained servers only. Remote endpoints (with OAuth) preferred over local installs where both exist. And every pick gets a note on who should not bother with it.
What is an MCP server (in one paragraph)?
An MCP server is a small connector that exposes an app's actions to an AI assistant through the Model Context Protocol. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code all speak MCP, so one server works across all of them. The server decides what the AI can do (read a Figma frame, open a GitHub PR, export a Canva design), and you decide which servers to connect. Remote servers live at a URL you paste into your client. Local servers run on your machine through npx, uvx or Docker.

Best MCP servers for content creators
Creators get the most out of MCP when the AI can touch the actual tools where content gets made and published. Research in, draft in a doc, design the visuals, voice it, publish it. Here's a server for each step.
1. Canva MCP: designs you can create, edit and export by prompt
Canva's official MCP server is remote, so there's nothing to install. Once connected, your assistant can create and edit designs, search your library, work with assets and brand kits, add comments, and export to PDF, PNG or MP4.
Where it shines: batch work. "Make five Instagram variants of this quote card using our brand kit" is a one-prompt job instead of an afternoon. Some features need Canva Pro, so check your plan before you build a workflow around them.
Skip it if your team designs in Figma and only uses Canva for the odd social post.
2. Figma MCP: real design context instead of screenshots
Figma's remote server at https://mcp.figma.com/mcp works on every plan, Starter included. It reads frames, components and variables, which means your AI sees the actual spacing tokens and component names rather than guessing from a picture. A desktop-app server is also available for Dev or Full seats on paid plans, and writing back to the canvas is in beta.
For creators, it turns "build me a landing page that matches this frame" into something that comes out close on the first try. For developers, it's the bridge between design and code. That's why it sits in both stacks.
3. Notion MCP: your content calendar, readable by AI
The official Notion server (https://mcp.notion.com/mcp, OAuth) searches, reads and writes pages and databases. If your editorial calendar, briefs and research notes live in Notion, this is the server that lets an assistant pull the brief, write the draft into the right page, and update the status column when it's done.
One gotcha we see a lot: people connect it and then wonder why the AI "can't find" a page. Access follows your workspace permissions, so if you can't see it, neither can the assistant.
4. ElevenLabs MCP: voiceovers and transcripts without leaving chat
ElevenLabs launched its MCP server in April 2025 as a local install, and its announcement post was updated in August 2026 to point people at a newer hosted server listed in the Claude connectors directory. Use the hosted one. It's easier to set up and you're not storing an API key in a config file.
What you get: text-to-speech, voice cloning, transcription, custom voice design, and voice agents. For a YouTube or Shorts workflow, that means script, voiceover and captions can come out of the same conversation.
5. WordPress MCP Adapter: publish from your assistant
This is the one to use if your blog runs on WordPress. The MCP Adapter lives in the official WordPress GitHub organisation and exposes WordPress "abilities" as MCP tools. It supports HTTP and STDIO (via WP-CLI).
The security model is the part we like. Abilities are private by default, and a site owner has to mark each one public before an AI can call it. Start with draft creation only. Let the assistant publish once you trust the output.
6. Firecrawl MCP: turn any page into clean Markdown
Research is where most AI-written content goes wrong, because the model works from memory instead of sources. Firecrawl's official server (https://mcp.firecrawl.dev/v2/mcp) fetches pages as clean Markdown and can crawl whole sites. Point it at the top five results for your keyword and you have real source material before you write a word.
7. Exa MCP: search built for AI agents
Exa (https://mcp.exa.ai/mcp) gives your assistant web search and fetch tools. It works without an API key on a rate-limited free tier, which makes it the easiest search server to try. Tavily and Apify are solid alternatives.
Pick one search server, though. Two overlapping search tools confuse the model about which to call, and you'll get worse results than with either one alone.
8. Zapier MCP: the fallback for apps without a server
Your newsletter tool, your scheduling app, that one niche CRM. If an app has no official MCP server, Zapier (mcp.zapier.com) probably connects to it. Enable only the specific actions you need. Giving an AI access to "everything in Zapier" is how you end up with an accidental email blast.
9. Eddyter MCP: configure your rich text editor by prompt
Full disclosure, this one is ours. Eddyter is an AI rich text editor SDK, and its MCP server (https://mcp.eddyter.com/mcp, source on GitHub at EddyterAI/eddyter-mcp) lets your assistant check your plan and AI credit usage, turn editor features like AI chat, tables, comments and exports on or off, and fetch integration snippets for React, Next.js, Vite and Remix.
We run it inside Claude Code ourselves to check license status and pull Next.js setup code without opening the dashboard. If you're building a CMS, a blog platform or any product where users write long-form content, it's worth a look. Setup guides: Claude Desktop and Claude Code, Cursor, and ChatGPT.
Best MCP servers for developers
Developer servers fall into four jobs: code and repos, docs, testing, and data. Most teams need one from each and nothing more.
10. GitHub MCP: issues, PRs and Actions
The official GitHub server is remote at https://api.githubcopilot.com/mcp/, with a Docker image for GitHub Enterprise Server. It reads code, manages issues and pull requests, checks Actions runs and security alerts. Turn on only the toolsets you need, and use read-only mode when you're just exploring. The old reference GitHub server was archived; don't install it from an outdated tutorial.
11. Context7: current docs, fewer invented APIs
Ask an AI about a library released after its training cutoff and it'll confidently write code for an API that doesn't exist. Context7 (https://mcp.context7.com/mcp) fixes that by pulling version-specific documentation on demand. It works with no key; a free key raises the rate limits. If you install only one developer server, make it this one.
12. Playwright MCP: browser automation through the accessibility tree
Microsoft's Playwright server (npx @playwright/mcp@latest) drives a real browser using the accessibility tree rather than screenshots, which is faster and more reliable for clicking through forms and reproducing bugs. It replaced the Puppeteer server, which is archived. Note that Playwright's own docs say it isn't a security boundary, so don't point it at sites where a misclick costs money.
13. Chrome DevTools MCP: performance and network debugging
Where Playwright clicks, Chrome DevTools MCP inspects. It gives your assistant performance traces, network requests and console messages. "Why is this page slow on first load?" becomes a question the AI can actually answer from data.
14. Supabase MCP: your database, scoped safely
Supabase's remote server (https://mcp.supabase.com/mcp) handles projects, SQL, migrations, logs and TypeScript type generation. Two flags matter: read_only=true and project_ref to lock it to one project. Use both on anything near production. We run our own production backend on Supabase, and we'd never connect it without them.
15. Postgres MCP Pro: for any other Postgres
Not on Supabase? Postgres MCP Pro is the community standard. It runs health checks, reviews query plans and recommends indexes, and its restricted mode allows only read-only transactions with a time limit. Install with pipx install postgres-mcp or Docker.
16. Sentry MCP: errors with full stack traces
Sentry's server (https://mcp.sentry.dev/mcp, OAuth only) pulls issues, stack traces and events, and can be scoped to one org or project. Paste an error ID into chat and the assistant reads the trace itself instead of you copying it over.
17. Linear MCP: tickets your assistant can update
Linear's remote server lives at https://mcp.linear.app/mcp, with a /mcp/readonly variant if you only want the AI reading tickets. The old /sse URL is deprecated, so update any config that still uses it. Jira teams should look at Atlassian's Rovo MCP instead.
18. DeepWiki: ask questions about any public repo
Free, no sign-in, remote at https://mcp.deepwiki.com/mcp. DeepWiki answers questions about public GitHub repositories, which is handy when you're evaluating a library and want to know how it handles something before you install it.
19. Filesystem: the reference server that's still worth it
The Filesystem server (@modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem) reads, writes and searches files in directories you allow. It's one of the few reference servers still active. Desktop chat clients without built-in file access need it; Claude Code and Cursor already have file tools, so skip it there.
20. Hugging Face MCP: models, datasets and Spaces
The official server at https://huggingface.co/mcp searches models, datasets, Spaces, papers and docs, and can call MCP-enabled Gradio Spaces as tools. Useful if you build with open models. Irrelevant if you don't.
Which MCP servers should you install first?
Start with four to six servers that match your daily work. Here are four starter stacks:
- Solo creator / blogger: Notion + Canva + Firecrawl + WordPress MCP Adapter. Research, draft, design, publish.
- Video and social creator: Canva + ElevenLabs + Exa + Notion. Script, voice, visuals, calendar.
- Web developer: GitHub + Context7 + Playwright + Supabase (or Postgres MCP Pro) + Sentry.
- Product team shipping a content feature: Figma + GitHub + Context7 + Eddyter.
Add a server when you notice yourself copying the same data into chat for the third time. That's the signal.
MCP servers to avoid in 2026
These still show up in older lists and tutorials. Don't install them:
- The original reference servers for GitHub, GitLab, Slack, Sentry, PostgreSQL, SQLite and Brave Search. Archived in 2025. Each vendor now ships its own.
- Puppeteer MCP. Archived. Use Playwright.
- The reference Google Drive server. Archived on 28 May 2025 and read-only anyway.
- Any server that still uses a deprecated
/sseendpoint (Linear and Asana both moved off it).
How do you add an MCP server?
For a remote server, copy its URL, open your client's connector or MCP settings, paste the URL, and sign in through OAuth when prompted. That's it. In Claude, that's the connectors settings; in Cursor and VS Code, it's the MCP config. Local servers need a command (like npx @playwright/mcp@latest) added to the same config file instead.
If you want a worked example, our 2-minute Cursor setup guide walks through the whole flow with screenshots, and the same steps apply to any remote server.
Are MCP servers safe?
As safe as the permissions you give them. Three habits cover most of the risk. Prefer official remote servers with OAuth over random community packages. Use read-only and project-scoped modes wherever they exist (GitHub, Supabase, Linear and Postgres MCP Pro all have them). And treat anything the AI reads from the web as untrusted, because a page can contain instructions written to hijack an agent. Keep write actions behind a confirmation step.
Frequently asked questions about MCP servers
What are the best MCP servers in 2026?
The best MCP servers in 2026 are official, vendor-maintained ones. For content creators: Canva, Figma, Notion, ElevenLabs and the WordPress MCP Adapter. For developers: GitHub, Context7, Playwright, Supabase and Sentry. Most people should run four to six servers, not more.
How many MCP servers should I connect at once?
Four to six is a good limit. Every server adds tools the AI has to choose between, which uses context and makes wrong tool calls more likely. Add a new server only when you keep pasting the same data into chat by hand.
What's the difference between a remote and a local MCP server?
A remote MCP server runs on the vendor's infrastructure. You paste its URL into your AI client and sign in with OAuth, with nothing to install. A local server runs on your own machine through npx, uvx or Docker. Pick remote when the vendor offers it; use local for tools like Playwright that need to control something on your computer.
Do MCP servers work with ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code, or only Claude?
MCP is an open protocol, so the same server works across Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients. Only the setup screen changes. For a step-by-step example, see how to add an MCP server to ChatGPT.
Which MCP servers are archived and should be avoided?
The original reference servers for GitHub, GitLab, Slack, Sentry, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Google Drive, Puppeteer and Brave Search were archived in 2025. Use each vendor's official server instead, and Playwright MCP in place of Puppeteer.
Are MCP servers safe to use?
They are as safe as the permissions you grant. Prefer official remote servers with OAuth, turn on read-only or project-scoped modes where available, keep write actions behind a confirmation step, and treat web content the AI reads as untrusted.
The bottom line
The best MCP server list is a short one. Pick the official servers for the tools you already open every day, scope them tightly, and ignore anything archived. If you're building a product where your users write and publish content, see how rich text editors with MCP support compare, or install Eddyter in under 10 minutes and connect its MCP server to the assistant you already use.
